Western Archrib is deeply saddened to announce the passing of former chairman, Jim Fargey, at the age of 93. Jim joined his father at Western Archrib in 1952 and was a driving force in the business’ expansion. He maintained his involvement in the business for over 60 years, culminating with 20 years as Chairman of the Board. His forward thinking and innovative approach led Western Archrib in many industry firsts.
Jim recognized that to grow the newly established Glulam industry, recognized Standards and Certifications needed to be developed. Jim was a catalyst in the development of the ‘Laminated Timber Institute of Canada’, which published the first ‘Timber Design Manuals’. Jim chaired the LTIC for many years and the eventual amalgamation into the Canadian Wood Council. Jim received the Paul Bunyan Award from the Canadian Wood Council for his leadership in developing new sources & markets for glulam products.
Jim valued the contribution of all his employees. He believed in supporting the community both financially and by volunteering his time. He directly supported Habitat for Humanity and many other organizations.
