As the primary certification agency in Alberta, the AFPA is responsible for ensuring the quality of each piece of stamped lumber originating from its members.
The AFPA is responsible for training and certifying graders, quality control procedures, inspections, and reporting in line with established standards.
The lumber grade itself provides information to consumers about the characteristics of the wood (e.g. moisture content, treatments, imperfections, and species) that affect quality, strength and appearance.
AFPA administers a quality management system for members.
