EDMONTON, AB — After nearly seven years at the helm of the Alberta Forest Products Association (AFPA), President and CEO Jason Krips will step down from his role at the end of the calendar year to join the executive team at the University of Alberta.

Krips will remain with AFPA through the end of 2026 and support the organization as the Board Executive undertakes the recruitment process for AFPA’s next President and CEO.

During his tenure, Krips led the association through a period of significant change for both AFPA and Alberta’s forest sector — from the COVID-19 pandemic and organizational restructuring to a record-breaking wildfire season and, most recently, significant trade challenges with the United States.

Throughout it all, Krips has been a steadfast champion for Alberta’s forest sector and the communities that depend on it. His leadership and trademark enthusiasm strengthened relationships with governments and partners across the country, brought a strong voice for forestry communities to decision-making tables, and helped advance solutions that supported the sector’s competitiveness and long-term future.

“We are sincerely grateful to Jason for the mark he has left on AFPA and for his years of leadership and service to Alberta’s forest sector. His energy, relationships, and commitment to collaboration have helped move the association forward, and we wish him every success in his new role at the University of Alberta. We have tremendous confidence in the strength of the AFPA team and, as we undertake the recruitment process for our next President and CEO, look forward to building on that foundation and continuing the important work ahead.”

— Dyon Armstrong, Chair of AFPA Board of Directors

“I am incredibly grateful for my time at AFPA and for the people who made it so meaningful. I would like to thank the AFPA Board, my colleagues across provincial and national forestry associations, the many elected and government officials I have had the opportunity to work with, and above all, the incredible team at AFPA.

“I remain tremendously optimistic about the future of Alberta’s forest sector. This is an innovative, resilient industry with incredible people behind it, and I look forward to continuing to cheer on its success in the years ahead.”

— Jason Krips, President and CEO, Alberta Forest Products Association

About the Alberta Forest Products Association

The Alberta Forest Products Association (AFPA) is a non-profit association that has represented the sustainable forest industry in Alberta since 1942. We foster success and innovation in the forest sector by providing a broad range of resources, guidance, and training for member companies, and we’re also responsible for increasing public understanding of our forest resource and how the forest industry maintains it.

We’re closely engaged with our members, the community at large, and other forest stakeholders, including governments, representatives from other industries in Alberta, such as teachers, students, and NGOs. Our goal is to make this industry the best it can be, and to fulfill that responsibility with transparency, integrity, and accountability.
